Circuit 1 of the revamped WP KUALA LUMPUR Open Circuit 2024/25
saw the participation of 95 players. Many players who wanted to register had to be turned away.
Apart from Malaysia, players from 5 other federations took part - India, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea and 1 who played under the FIDE flag.


Circuit 1 of the competition produced yet again, another champion in the Open category.
4th ranked Hiew Jin Yung from Catholic High School, Petaling Jaya emerged Champion of Circuit 1 after winning all 7 rounds. He played on Board 1 in Round 4 and never left after that.
Having a FIDE elo of 1497, Hiew had a rating performance of 2041.


Since KLCA started the circuit in February 2023, there have never been a defending
or, even a repeat champion in the Open/U20 category. 
In second place is 5th ranked CM Amir Faiz Amirul representing MCKK, Perak.
who secured 6 points from 6 rounds having missed Round 4 due to an official engagement.

Third ranked and finishing third, also on 6 points but losing out on tie-break is
15-year old Rittesh Muraley representing SMK Methodist Klang.

U20 Category

Yet again, another champion emerged in the U20 competition in the form of  Benjamin Law Xian Loong. Benjamin who is currently studying at Sunway College finished with 6 points and was declared champion on PE tie-break over Naim Azraie who also secured 6 points.
9 circuits and 9 different champions.

Apart from Naim who is attending school in Negeri Sembilan, Circuit 9 has the most winners from schools in other states compared to other circuits. 3 players each from Selangor and Perak, 1 from Melaka and only 2 players are attending school / university in Kuala Lumpur. 

In third place is Australian Nathan Kong. Muhammad Muaz and Amir Faiz, both from MCKK Perak emerged 4th and 5th respectively and in doing so helped MCKK to win the Best School in U20 category.

12-year old Aqilah Husna from KL, Elfie Ismadi from MOZAC Melaka, Nanthaguru from SMK Clifford Perak, Piraveen from Selangor and Leong Kai Shenn from KL, completes the Top 10 list
by finishing 6th to 10th place respectively. 



A few players managed to increase their points tally in the strong field and last circuit - Circuit 9 of the 2023/24 WPKL Youth U20 Circuit (formerly known as KL Age Group).
They are Naim Azraie, CM Amir Faiz, Piraveen Velaithum and Leong Kai Shenn.

Naim from SMAP Labu, Negeri Sembilan added 9 points after finishing Runner-Up.
He climbed from 10th place to 6th with 25 points accumulated over 3 circuits.
MCKK's Amir Faiz remains at 8th place despite adding 6 points for finishing 5th. He ends the 2023/24 WPKL season with 23 points. 

Piraveen Velaithum secured 3 points by finishing 8th. He improves from 25th to finish joint-19th overall on 8 points. Last but not the least, Leong Kai Shenn secured 2 points in finishing 9th. Leong ends the 2023/24 season in joint 25th place with 6 points.



U12 Category

Only Fan Li Feng managed to increase his points tally by finishing fourth in the competition. The 7 points earned, allowed him to improve from being in the Top 10 to number 6 in the final standings.

The 2nd TTDI Open Chess Competition 2023 have been endorsed by KLCA to be
Circuit 9 of the 2023/24 WPKL Youth Circuit. This will also be the final circuit for 2023.

KLCA endorsed this event on 1st November 2023.
MCF gave its endorsement on 7th November 2023.

The competition will be held at the Air-conditioned TTDI Community Hall - K.Lumpur
on Sunday, 17th December 2023 in conjunction with the start of year-end school holidays.


Entrance fee is RM50 for Rated Players and RM70 for Unrated Players.
Players MUST HAVE FIDE ID & ENCORAGED TO HAVE MCF ID

12-year old Aqilah Husna Ainul Fikri from SK Jalan Gurney 2 is the Champion of the 
2023/24 WPKL Women U20 Chess Circuit - Circuit 2. She won 7 straight against mostly elder players in Circuit 2 to remain undefeated.

Swetha Thamil Mani from Klang and Ainul Mardhiah from Johor both secured 6 points to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively after tie-break.

After Circuit 2, Sweetha Thamil Manni is the points leader with 19 points.
9 points behind is Aqilah Husna with 10 points and Joint Third with 9 points each
is Ku Ee Enn and Mathivathane Surendran from SMK Puteri Titiwangsa.

The Top 10 in the Women U20 Points - Circuit 2, qualifies to play in Circuit 2 of the
WP SUKMA Selection Circuit. Circuit 2 will be held on 28th October 2023 at Putrajaya.



 Women U12

Yap Rae Lyn is the Champion of Circuit 2 of the 2023/24 WPKL Women U12 category.
After a promising start with 3 straight wins, Rae Lyn accumulated 4 points from 4 wins over 7 rounds.


Both Chloe Loh and Shanvatana Vijayan also secured  4 points each.
However, after a better tie-break silver went to Chloe and bronze medal was awarded to Shanvatana.

Shanvatana Vijayan from SJKT Ldg Kuala Selangor on 16 points is the U12 points leader.
4 points behind is Low Hui Lin from SJKC Kuen Cheng 2 with 12 points.

Three are tied on third with 10 points each.
They are Haefa Sofea who cannot take part as she is at the World Cadets Championship in Egypt,
 Clara Lai Yong Jie from SJKC Kuen Cheng 1 and Yap Rae Lyn from Wesley Methodist School.

16-year old Swetha Thamil Manni is the inaugural Champion of the 
2023/24 WPKL Women U20 Chess Circuit - Circuit 1. She completed Circuit 1 undefeated
with 6.5 points

Ku Ee Enn on 6 points  and Vanisrie Kumarajah on 5 points, finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Haefa Sofea bt Kemarol Zamani is the Champion of Circuit 1 
of the 2023/24 WPKL Women U12 category. She garnered 5.5 points over 7 rounds.

Cleo Ho Wan Xuan and Shanvatana Vijayan both secured  5 points each.
However, after tie-break silver went to Cleo and bronze medal was awarded to Shanvatana.

The current Top 3 in the Women U12 Points standings, qualifies to play in Circuit 2 of the
WP SUKMA Selection Circuit. Circuit 2 will be held on 28th October 2023 at Putrajaya.

WP SUKMA Team 2023/24 - Selection for WP Talent Pool (Updated: 22 OCTOBER 2023)




SUKMA 2024 Talent Pool Selection 

(1) KLCA and Putrajaya Chess Association(PCA) will jointly conduct a SUKMA Selection competition to identify and select players for the 2024 SUKMA Talent Pool.

(2) This was decided after the meeting with MSWP on 4th September 2023 in Putrajaya.

(3) There will be at least 4 competitions in the Selection Circuit.
      Circuit 1 (MEN Only) - Saturday, 7th October 2023 at Putrajaya
      Circuit 2 (WOMEN Only) - Saturday, 28th October 2023 at Putrajaya
      Circuit 3 - Sunday, 5th November 2023 at Kuala Lumpur

      Circuit 4 - Monday, 13th November 2023 at Kuala Lumpur.
      
                 

     A.Circuit 1 - 3 will be open to players fulfilling the criterias outlined in Item (5) below.

     B.Circuit 4 will only be opened to players finishing in Top 10 in Circuits 1 - 3 and nominees of WP
         SUKMA Selection Committee.


(4) Players wanting to take part MUST fulfill the age and Malaysian nationality requirement and one of the criteria in Items 3 to 10 as follows:-.

Credible Performance by WP KUALA LUMPUR U12 and U16 Teams in Malaysian Chess Festival 2023

The W.P.Kuala Lumpur U12 team who competed in the Merdeka Rapid Junior team competition
secured 6th place out of 63 teams.


President's pick and Team Captain Muhd Ismakhaizuran Khomisajie anchored the team well
by delivering 7.5points from 9 rounds.
Marcus Yuan Bo Tee on Board 4 secured 7points to help the team place well.
Kyle Tee Shunze on Board 2 and Yeo Yee Meng on Board 3 completes the U12 Team and played their part in the Top 10 finish.

Results: Circuit 8 - WPKL Youth Circuit 2023/24 and Latest Points Standings

Top 10 MALAYSIANS in Present U20 Points Standings and Top 3 in U12 Points Standings,
qualifies to play in the WP SUKMA Selection Circuit which will be used to identify players for SUKMA 2024 Talent Pool.

The Selection Circuit will be organised jointly by KLCA and Putrajaya Chess Association. 
The circuit dates will be announced in due course after confirmation with MSWP.
Circuit will start on 7th October and ends in mid-November 2023.

Shen Ree Herng is the latest WPKL 2023/24 Circuit Champion.
Ree Herng is the 8th Champion in as many circuit after Wee Yin Lin(C1), Naim Azraie(C2), 
CM Amir Faiz Amirul (C3), Beh Keat Ket (C4), Aaron Lim Zhung Chen (C5), Tan Wei Yuan(C6)
and Saidarahas Somashetty(C7).

Ironic that nobody had won the event twice after 8 circuits.

U12 player AFM Lee Yun Rui decided to compete in the U20 category and finished a strong second, 0.5point behind the Champion. Debutant R.Ashockumar Viswaa who came all the way from Bagan Datuk, Perak got the bronze medal.

Circuit 4 Champion Beh Keat Kee finished 4th and added to his points tally of 26 to place 5th on the latest standings. 


Despite not taking part, Wee Yin Lin still leads with 44 points. 
2 points behind in second place is  Aaron Jaymes Lim Zhung Chen with 42 points. 
Danish Zharif remains on third place with 39 points.

12-year old Muhd Ismakhaizuran Khomisajie is still fourth on 31 points.
Circuit 4 Champion - Beh Keat Kee finished 4th and bringing his points tally up to 26 points
 to place 5th on the latest standings.

U12

Jovian Yeoh from SJKC Yuk  Chai is the Champion for this circuit with 5 1/2 points.
He edged out Runners-Up and 3-time Circuit Champion Wong Rui Yang by 1/2 point.

Fast improving Leong Ee Hearn also secured 5 points in this competition, same as Rui Yang but
lost out on tie-break to finish 3rd. Ee Hearn has improved to 4th place with 27points from 7th place previously.


8-year old Alan Gagloyev from Kazakhstan had an off day to finish 6th but is still the clear cut  points leader with 51 points from 6 circuits. Tee Shunze Kyle who was in WPKL U12 Team to the Malaysian Chess Festival 2023 is now second on 42 points, 9 points behind Alan.

Rui Yang who only played in 4 circuits has dropped to third place with 39 points.

ANNOUNCEMENT

(1) The KLCA held their Q3 EXCO Meeting on Saturday, 29th July 2023 ( 2.00 - 3.30PM ) and have finalised and endorsed the team for the Malaysian Chess Festival 2023 which will be held in August 2023 at Cititel, Midvalley.

(2) The players were ALL selected from those who took part in the current WPKL Youth Circuit 2023/24, FIDE-Rated (formerly known as KL Age Group 2023) organised by KLCA.

U20

Saidarahas Somashetty showed why India is now one of the leading countries in chess by emerging champion and showing the Malaysian players that they need to work harder.
He is now 11th in the points standings with 13 points.
Saidarahas is the 7th Champion in as many circuit after Wee Yin Lin(C1), Naim Azraie(C2), 
CM Amir Faiz Amirul (C3), Beh Keat Ket(C4), Lim Zhung Chen(C5) and Tan Wei Yuan(C6).

Irregular circuit player and Circuit 4 Champion Beh Keat Kee finished runners-up and added to his points tally of 19 to place 7th on the list. Isaac Tan finished fourth and place 6th on the leaderboard
with 21 points.


Despite finishing 10th and collecting 1 point, Wee Yin Lin still leads in the new U20 category (previousU18) with 44 points. He received a consolation by getting the Best U14 prize.
2 points behind in second place is  Aaron Jaymes Lim Zhung Chen with 42 points. Aaron finished
6th in Circuit 7 and added 5 points to his tally.

Fresh from MSSWPKL Bangsar Zone is Danish Zharif who didn't play in Circuit 6 and got the bronze medal in C7. Danish added 8 points and is now on 39 points to be third on the leaderboard.
12-year old Muhd Ismakhaizuran Khomisajie who did not participate has now dropped a place to fourth, stuck on 31 points.


U12

8-year old Alan Gagloyev from Kazakhstan managed to defend his title from Circuit 6 by emerging Champion in the U12 category. He is now a 2-time Champion and is the clear cut leader with 46 points.

Leong Ee Hearn was the silver medalist and collected 9 points. Ee Hearn is now in 7th place with
19 points. Bronze medalist  Yeo Yee Meng added 8 points to be placed 5th on the board with 22 points.


Tee Shunze Kyle and Wong Rui Yang both did not participate in Circuit 7 and are now placed second with 36 points and third with 30 points respectively in the WPKL Circuit Points Standings.
  4th place in the WPKL Youth Circuit 2023/24, U12 points standings is Ian Rayqal who finished 9th and obtained 2 points. He remains on Fourth place in the standings.
